Denver International Airport (DIA) is one of the busiest airports in the country. With several expansions currently underway, DIA is always looking for more efficient ways to streamline their security process, so the airport lives up to its name as “least stressful.”
So it comes as no surprise that DIA is the first airport in the nation to test out a new state-of-the-art security screening technology designed to keep the lines moving.
The old scanners had travelers walk into the machine and remain still, with their arms up in the air while they are screened. The new device is said to be simpler, and faster to use. Passengers merely walk up to the machine, and it completes the scan- you don’t even have to raise your arms.
After the scan, 3 TSA officers can look at the image instead of just one, which speeds up the clearance process.
TSA officers will determine if there is a “threat item” on the body, which is seconds quicker. This may not seem like a lot, but with over 70,000 travelers coming through DIA a day, every second makes a difference.
The new scanners will be tested for three months and if deemed successful, will be implemented full-time along with the new baggage security DIA is also testing out.
