A record number of Americans are expected to travel this holiday season. Airports are anticipating more passengers wandering through their doors in over a decade! I suppose all of that holiday guilt your inlaws laid on you for spending the last few holidays solo is stacking up, huh?
If you are one of the lucky ones and have plans to hop on a flight this holiday season, we have a few tips that will help you on your way.
Three of the most common tips are:
- Leave early
- Pack light
- Bring snacks- but you already knew that.
However, more seasoned travelers have other tricks you may not have considered to make your travel plans more bearable.
Clear TSA Quickly:
If you are not a frequent flyer, remember that you can’t travel with liquids over 3.5 ounces in your carry-on. Some gelatinous foods also count as a liquid by the way.
Don’t wrap your gifts. While it’s not prohibited, TSA encourages travelers to keep their presents unwrapped just in case officers need to inspect them. So that embarrassing gift you plan on bringing aunt Ethel, you will get caught with it first.
Don’t leave your glasses, belts, keys, or IDs behind at TSA. Yes, lots of people are in a rush and forget them. So don’t get caught with your pants down. Especially in front of grandma. Grab that belt.
Apply for TSA PreCheck.
It will cost you about $85 bucks for five years, but it allows pre-approved travelers to bypass regular security lanes at the airport. Get all the information you need here. Registering for TSA PreCheck is especially helpful for those who travel often.
Update your ID ASAP!
2019 is the last year you’ll be able to travel by airplane without a Real ID. We have told you about this before- starting Oct 1, 2020, all air travelers in the United States will need a federally compliant ID or UA passport to travel. Rumor has it over 57% of Americans are still unaware of this upcoming deadline.
Plan for Parking!
If you are worried about parking, remember to reserve a spot in advance. Fine Airport Parking has indoor, outdoor, and valet parking that comes with perks. We will detail your car while you are away!
